Have you ever thought of changing your Windows 7 logon screen with a customized image? Bored of the default Windows 7 logon screen? If yes is your answer, you landed on the right page. In this post, I am going to explain how to change Windows 7 logon screen using the registry editor.
Compared to the older versions, customizing Windows 7 logon screen is an easier task, and you don’t have to use any third-party software for this. You can customize your Windows 7 logon screen by directly editing the registry file. Let’s see how to do this in detail.
Steps To Change Windows 7 Logon Screen Using Registry:
Step 1: To get started, you need to open the registry editor. To do that, Press “Win + R” on your keyboard to open the Run Window.
Alternatively, you can also go to start, and type Run in the search box and hit enter to open the Run dialog box.
Step 2: In the Run command box, type “Regedit” and hit “Enter.” Now the Registry Editor window will open up as shown below.
Step 3: Inside the Registry Editor navigate to the folder given below.
Step 4: You will find Dword Value OEMBackground in the right pane. Right click on the Dword Value and select “Modify” from the context menu.
Step 5: In the “Edit Dword value” dialog box, change the value from 0 to 1 and click “OK.”
Step 6: Now the Windows 7 Logon registry file is modified. To set a logon picture, open your explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\oobe. Inside this folder, create a new folder and name it as info. Again, inside the “info” folder create another folder and name it as backgrounds.
Step 7: Copy your favorite picture to this “backgrounds” folder and rename it as backgrounddefault.jpg.
Note: The image should be less than 256 KB in size.
Step 8: Now press Win + L to view the logon screen. If you don’t see the new Windows 7 Logon background, restart your Windows to apply the changes.
That’s it. You have now successfully changed your Windows 7 logon screen.
