Are you searching for a way to clear your document history automatically when you log off your PC? If yes is your answer, you are in the right page. In this tutorial I am going to guide you through some simple steps to achieve clear document history automatically on Windows Log Off.
Actually, this process will help when you are using a shared computer because it will restrict other users from spying on your recently opened documents. This method will work on all Windows version i.e., Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows 2003.
Steps To Clear Document History Automatically On Log Off:
Note: This process needs the Admin privilege, so make sure that you have logged in as an Admin.
Step 1: To get started, press “Win + R” in your keyboard and when the “Run” dialog box prompted, type “regedit” and hit “Enter”
Step 2: This will now open up the “Registry Editor” window. Now go to HKEY_Current_User – > Software -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Current Version -> Policies -> Explorer from the left side of the window.
Step 3: Now in the right pane, right-click and select New -> DWORD (32 bit) Value as shown in the picture below.
Step 4: Once done, a pop-up will appear asking a name for the DWORD value. Sometimes, the pop-up may not appear and if that happens don’t worry. The name will be highlighted and you can change it easily.
Step 5: Change the name to “ClearRecentDocsOnExit” and hit “Enter”. Since you can change the name only once make sure that it is correctly typed before making the changes.
Step 6: Now to change the value, right-click on the created DWORD value and select “Modify”.
Step 7: In the “Edit DWORD” window set the value data to 1 and click “OK”.
Step 8: Now close the Registry Editor and restart your computer to make changes to your Computer.
That’s it. Now the document history of your computer will be cleared automatically whenever you shut down. You can always disable this function either by changing the value data 0 or by deleting the entire DWORD value that was created now.
