Are you searching for a way to create a folder which cannot be deleted or renamed by any other users on your Windows PC? If yes is your answer, then you are on the right page. In this tutorial, I am going to show you the steps to create a folder that cannot be deleted or renamed.
The command line mode in Windows is a great tool to explore many of the hidden features of Windows. Creating a undeletable folder is one trick among them. You just need to know some simple commands. Let us discuss the steps in detail.
Steps To Create A Folder That Can’t Be Deleted Or Renamed:
Step 1: To get started, first you need to open up the command prompt with the administrative privilege. Go to Start and type cmd in the Start’s Search box. Right click on the link appeared and select Run As Administrator from the context menu.
Step 2: This will now open up the command prompt as shown below.
Step 3: Get into the drive where you wish to create a folder. Type “F:” (if you want to create a folder on the F drive) and hit enter to navigate to the drive.
Step 4: Now to create the folder, type the command given below and hit enter.
“md FolderName\” (Without Quotes)
This will create the folder in the selected drive as shown below.
Note: Here the folder name specifies the Windows Reserved Folder Names such as aux, con, and Ipt1 to Ipt9.
Step 5: You can use this folder as usual, and if you try to delete or rename the folder, you will be getting an error message as shown in the screenshot below.
Step 6: To delete the created folder follow the steps from 1 to 3, and instead of using the command in step 4, enter the command given below.
“rd FolderName\” (Without Quotes)
Step 7: This command will delete the created folder. It can delete not only the folder created using the md command but also any other folders on your PC.
Note: Make sure that you shouldn’t enter a space in the Folder’s name while creating using md command and also while deleting an already created folder using rd command.
