Disk Defragmenting in Windows 7 will allows you to re-arrange all the fragmented data. With this Disk Defragmenting process, you can improve your system’s efficiency and speed. There are two options to defrag your hard disk/drives in Windows 7. One is by manually defragmenting, and the other is by setting up a regular defragmenting schedule using Disk Defragmenter.
Let us discuss the steps in detail.
Steps To Defragment The Disk In Windows 7:
Method 1: Manually Running Disk Defragmenter
Step 1: First, Open your Windows Explorer and select the drive that needs to be defragmented. Right click on the Drive and select Properties from the context menu.
Step 2: The Drive Properties window will open up now. Navigate to the Tools tab and click on De-fragment Now button under De-fragmentation to start defragmenting the drive.
Step 3: This will now open up the Disk Defragmenter Window as shown below.
Step 4: Now select the drive again and click on De-fragment Disk. The process will start now, and it may take several minutes depending on the size and the De-fragment status of the drive.
That’s it. The selected drive is successfully defragmented now.
To configure a disk defragmenter schedule follow the steps given below.
Method 2: Configuring A Disk Defragmenter Scheduler:
Step 1: To open the disk defragmenter, go to start and type disk defragmenter in the Start Search. Open the link that appears as the search result.
Alternatively, you can also access the disk defragmenter by navigating to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter.
Step 2: In the Disk Defragmenter window, click on Configure Schedule button to start scheduling the De-fragmentation.
Step 3: Select the check box “Run on a schedule” and then select the Frequency, Day, and Time from the respective drop downs to schedule the Defragmention.
Step 4: Select the Disk to schedule the defragmentation with Select Disks button and once done click OK.
You have now scheduled the disk defragmentation successfully.
