Have you ever wanted to find wi-fi password of a particular network to which you have been connected? If yes is your answer, here is a trick to find the wi-fi password of a network using the command line mode.
In this world of internet, you may be using too many wi-fi connections and probably you may forget the password of a connected wi-fi network. You can retrieve your connected Wi-fi password using some simple commands through the command prompt window.
Whenever you connect to a wi-fi network by entering its password, a WLAN profile for that Wi-Fi network is created, and it gets updated each time when you connect to that network. This WLAN profile is stored on your Laptop/PC along with the other required details of the WLAN profile.
Let’s see how to view a particular network’s profile and how to find the password of that particular profile in detail.
Note: This method will work even if you are offline and you can find password of any connected network.
Steps To Find Wi-Fi Password Using CMD (Command Prompt):
Step 1: To get started, first you need to open command prompt window as an administrator. Click the Start icon in your windows taskbar and type cmd in the search box. Now Right click on the cmd icon that is displayed and select “Run As Administrator“.
Step 2: The command prompt window will now open up with administrator privileges.
Step 3: Next, to know the details of all the connected wi-fi profiles that are stored in your PC, type the command and given below hit “Enter“.
netsh wlan show profile
Step 4: This command will now list all the connected wi-fi profiles as shown below.
Step 5: To select a particular wi-fi profile and to view the details of that profile (its password, etc) type the command given below and hit “Enter“.
netsh wlan show profile WIFI-Name key=clear
Here WIFI-Name is the name of the wi-fi profile for which you wish to know the password.
Step 6: For Example, for the profile Starboys, the command will be
netsh wlan show profile Starboys key=clear
Step 7: Now Scroll down to the Security Settings and under the Key Content, you may find the Wi-Fi password of your selected network.
That’s it. Using this method you can find the password of any wi-fi network that is connected to your PC/Laptop.
