How To Hide Your Files Inside A .jpg Image?

December 12, 2016 by Sathishkumar Varatharajan Leave a Comment

Wish to hide some of your personal files from the public view for more privacy? There are several ways available for hiding your files but the best one would be, to hide your files inside a .jpg image.

You can hide your files using the default windows hidden attribute but this will be less secure as anyone with some basic computer knowledge can access them. To make sure that your files are even more secure, you can hide your files inside a .jpg image and no one can know that you have a hidden a file behind the chosen .jpg image. Just follow the simple steps give below to hide your files inside an image.

How To Hide Files Inside A .JPG Image File

Steps To Hide Your Files Inside .JPG Image:

Video Tutorial

Step 1: To get started, first create a .jpg image or you can even download an image from the web. For this tutorial purpose, I am going to save the image file in the secret folder inside the “F” drive. That is, F:\secret\secret.jpg will be the path of the downloaded image file (secret.jpg is the name of the downloaded image file).

Step 2: Now right-click in the empty space inside the secret folder and click New -> WinRAR Archive to create a new Archive folder.

Creating The Archived Folder

Step 3: Move the files that you wish to hide from the public view to the Archived folder .

Step 4: Select “Windows” and type “command prompt” or “cmd” in the search box and hit “Enter” to open the Command prompt window.

Opening Command Prompt Through Windows Search

Alternatively to open the command prompt using Run utility press Ctrl + R and type cmd in the Run box and hit “Enter“.

Step 5: This will now open up the command prompt window. Head on to the folder where the archived file and the image is saved.

If you have saved the files in your “F” drive rather than the home drive “C”, you will need to change the drive from “C” to “F” in command prompt. To do that type F: and hit “Enter“.

If you have saved the files inside a folder, type cd followed by the name of the folder (in this case, cd secret) and hit “Enter“.

Changing The Drive And The Directory In Command Prompt

Step 6: Now you need to enter the binary copy code. For this tutorial purpose, I have named the image file as “secret.jpg” and the rar file as “secret.rar”. So the code will be copy /b secret.jpg + secret.rar images.jpg

Note: Here images.jpg refers to the name of the new jpg image that contains the hidden files.

Step 8: Now delete the original files for extra privacy.

Note: You can also hide this file using the windows default hidden attribute.

That’s it. Now you have successfully hidden your files inside a .jpg image. To get back the hidden files, change the extension of the new .jpg image to .rar and double-click on the file.
