In the previous article, I have explained the way to setup Google Analytics for your website. In today’s article, I am gonna teach you how to set up Google Webmaster Tools or Search Console (as it is recently renamed) for your website. As a new webmaster, having Google Search Console setup for your website will help you to determine the errors associated with your website.
Apart from that, Google Search Console will let you to submit your website to the Google search index thereby serving as a connecting portal between you and the search engine giant “Google“. You will also be able to track the search engine visibility your website is getting from Google along with a lot of other useful metrics, which will be helpful in determining your website promotional strategies.
Setup Google Webmaster Tools (Search Console) For Your Website:
2) Now, you will be able to see the Search Console welcome page. In there, enter your domain URL and click on “Add Property” for adding your domain to Google Webmaster Tools.
3) Next, you will be asked to verify that you are the owner of the domain URL that you are trying to add to Search Console. By default, you will be shown the “HTML Verification” method, which is quiet easy. To get verified by this method, download the HTML tag given by Google and upload it to your web server (either by logging into the cPanel or by using FTP client like FileZilla). Once done, click on verify to complete your verification process.
4) If you don’t wish to follow this method or if you are not sure how to upload the HTML file to your web server, then click on “Alternate Methods“, choose any one of the other methods (HTML Tag, Google Analytics, Domain name provider & Google Tag Manager) given in there and get your ownership verified.
5) Once you have verified your domain ownership, you will be able to access all the features of Google Search Console (Webmaster Tools).
That’s it. Now you have successfully finished setting up Google Webmaster Tools or Search Console for your website. If you encounter any issues while following this tutorial or if you have any queries regarding Google Search console, do let me know via comments.
