Are you a power user of Chrome? Have you used to open a lot of tabs on your Chrome browser? Are you searching for an easier way to toggle between the frequent tabs by pinning them on Chrome? If yes is your answer to all these questions then you are on the right page. In this tutorial, I am going to explain to you the steps that will help to pin and unpin tabs in Chrome using keyboard shortcuts.
Pinning tabs in Google Chrome will move those pinned tabs to the left of the browser. Also, pinning them will shrink the tabs to show only the Favicons of that particular tab. You can also pin and unpin the tabs instead of keeping a set of specific tabs pinned.
The concept here is simple. I am going to use a browser extension for Google Chrome called Tab Pinner. Using this extension, you can easily pin and unpin your favorite tabs using customized keyboard shortcuts. Let us discuss the steps in detail.
Steps To Pin And Unpin Tabs In Chrome Using Keyboard Shortcut:
Step 1: To get started, visit the Chrome Extension Store and download the extension Tab Pinner.
Step 2: Click on Add To Chrome button to install the extension.
Step 3: Now to assign a keyboard shortcut, go to the Settings menu in the far right corner of the Chrome browser window and click More Tools -> Extensions from the context menu.
Step 4: In the Manage Extensions page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Keyboard Shortcuts link which will be located in the bottom right corner of the window.
Step 5: The Keyboard Shortcuts window will open up now. Under Tab Pinner section, you may find three options.
- Pin all tabs in the current window – This will pin all the tabs in the current window,
- Pin or Unpin the current window – This will pin the current tab,
- Unpin all pinned tabs in the current window – This will unpin all the tabs in the current window.
Specify your desired keyboard shortcuts next to each of the options and select Global from the drop down menu if you wish to use these shortcuts even when the chrome is minimized.
Step 6: Click OK once done. Now close the Extensions tab in the Chrome window.
That’s it. You have now successfully created the keyboard shortcut to pin and unpin your favorite tabs in Google Chrome. From now onwards, whenever you press the shortcut key on your keyboard, the tabs will easily be pinned to your browser.
