Have you ever wanted to keep track of online publications related to your search term? If yes is your answer, then Google alerts would be the best solution for you. It will help you to keep updated with the latest online publications related to your search term. In this tutorial, I am going to explain about how to setup Google Alerts for a particular search term.
What Is Google Alerts?
Google Alerts is a notification service designed by Google to detect content changes in online publications. Once you create an alert, this service will email updates of new results such as the web pages, blogs, articles, and even the scientific research papers that matches your preferred search term.
You can also say that the Google alerts as a customized Google search because it delivers advanced search results for your search term or phrase. The major advantage of Google Alerts is that you can set the number of alerts per email (i.e., up to 1000 per mail). Follow the steps given below to setup Google alerts for a particular search term.
Steps To Setup Google Alerts:
Step 1: To get started, first, visit the Google Alerts web page i.e., www.google.com/alerts.
Step 2: Now either sign in using your existing Gmail account or create a new Google account.
Step 3: Once you sign into your account, you will be taken to the Google Alerts homepage. In the text box “Create an alert about…” type in the search phrase or term for which you need to create the alert.
For this tutorial purpose, I am using the term “How to.”
Step 4: Once you enter the term, you will be displayed with an “Alert preview” beneath the phrase. Now to edit the options of this alert, click “Show Options“.
Step 5: Here, you can choose from the list of available options,
- How often would you like to receive the alert
- The sources for your alert
- The language for your alert
- The region for your alert
- How many results that need to be displayed for your alert?
- And finally where the alerts need to be delivered.
Step 6: Click “Create Alert“, once you finished setting up the options.
Step 7: The list of created alerts will be displayed on the dashboard. Also, you can modify the options anytime by clicking on the “Pencil” icon located on the right side of the alert.
Step 8: You can also delete the alert by clicking on the “Trash” icon as shown next to the “Pencil” icon.
That’s it. You have now successfully created an alert for your search term. From now on whenever Google detects a new content or update related to your search term, you will get an alert from Google.
